Reviews and features spotlighting the artistry of Eric Finbarr Carey on opera and concert stages worldwide.

Tenor Finnbar Carey was marvelous with emotion, nuance, and sound.

Millbrook Independent

…Carey’s tenor is absolutely gorgeous, smooth as cream, and his awkward Albert is so adorable that it’s impossible not to be won over [...] In fact, Carey is so winning in the part, so warm, expressive, and adroit, that he spins some surprisingly thoughtful stuff outta this silly yarn…

Bad Oracle/Medium

Beethoven’s An die ferne Geliebte with Eric Finbarr Carey the able tenor, and a sensitive Mr. Biss as his accompanist.

Tenor Eric Finbarr Carey in the role of the ever-optimistic Candide was resonant, mellifluous, and deft with dramatic nuance

The silken tenor of Eric Finbarr Carey

Opera News

Carey was another exceptional soloist in this performance, well capturing the desperation of the text in a Part I aria. In a later aria acknowledging God’s mercy amidst the turmoil of the passion story, Carey was particularly expressive and found a great deal of dynamic range, all elegantly accompanied by two viole d’amore

Town Topics

Carey was a welcome oasis of lyricism and a high point.

Strong performance from tenor Eric Finbarr Carey

Gramophone UK

A shockingly funny showing came from tenor Eric Finbarr Carey. This was strongly felt from the deliberately-awkward delivery of Carey’s opening phrase…

Opera Wire

Carey’s opening ornaments lead to a strong, early hold as his almost-sorrowful nuance tinged the enthralled phrases of the text.

Opera Wire

Tenor Eric Finbarr Carey had us trembling in our seat with a searing performance of Schubert's "Der Erlkönig". What we look for in an effective performance is good storytelling: Mr. Carey held us spellbound, sustaining the tension throughout a pause before the final grim "tod"!

Voce di Meche

We were more than pleased by tenor Eric Finbarr Carey's performance, exhibiting a great deal of nuance in this song of loss.

Voce di Meche

Tenor Eric Finbarr Carey quivered with orgasmic excitement as the blood-drunk Mosquito and with punch-drunk passion as the unrequited lover, filling the hall with clear and attractive tone

The Boston Musical Intelligencer

Eric Finbarr Carey provided just the sort of full-out, hard-charging, sonorous reading that would have been perfect for Beethoven’s original purposes

The Boston Musical Intelligencer

As Jane’s ill-fated husband, Guilford, Eric Finbarr Carey’s sweet-toned, lyric tenor matched Pachecano’s beautifully. The two exhibited winning chemistry, as well, in their third-act duet.

Opening the program were vocal quartets from Franz Schubert’s “Mehrstimmige Gesänge (Part Songs),” led by pianist Lydia Brown, assistant conductor at the Metropolitan and San Francisco operas. Brown was joined by soprano Bridget Esler, mezzo-soprano Chihiro Asano, tenor Eric Finbarr Carey and bass-baritone Evan Luca Gray in four songs that showcased these fine voices…it was certainly beautiful singing and, of course, it was Schubert.
